Brett Andreassen, Making the most of Membership

Brett Andreassen

When Real Estate Academy (REA) introduced membership options, Brisbane agent Brett Andreassen jumped at the chance to become a foundation member.

To Mr Andreassen, spreading his training costs across the year made sense, rather than trying to find money each time he wanted to attend a training course. But he also discovered his Gold membership had many more benefits.

"I looked at the cost of what I was paying each time I'd go to a course and it worked out to be a much better option to have membership through the regular payments, rather than trying to find an extra $1500 for training sessions," the Doug Disher real estate agent said.

Based in Brisbane's inner west, Mr Andreassen's patch sits within properties around $400,000 up to $500,000 or $550,000. He enjoyed the networking options at REA’s Brisbane courses, but also liked the opportunity to meet new people at interstate training sessions.

"I've had the opportunity to fly to other states for courses and do some courses again if I want to. I can pick up new things by doing a course again, but also when a course is in Brisbane, it's more of a networking thing with other agents. I get there and I'm in a group where I usually know everyone, so when I'm at different places I hear other ideas," Mr Andreassen said. He added that agents from other cities and networks also had a different culture and provided a new perspective.

One of the upsides Mr Andreassen had not considered much before taking up his REA membership was how his interstate contacts could help him service his current clients.

"I've built a really strong referral network from around the country so if I'm speaking with someone who wants to move to Perth or Sydney I can call up my contacts and say 'I've got someone buying down there, can you send me up a report?' It's a lot easier to do that if I've already met them; you don't have to do so much legwork," he explained.

For those considering becoming members, Mr Andreassen suggested they consider the amount they currently spend on training courses to see if membership was a more cost effective option. The other point he highlighted was the option to transfer membership to a colleague so they could benefit from the training as well.

REA Membership starts from $35 per week for the ongoing professional training and development needed to meet industry legislative requirements and stay at the top of the game. This includes having unlimited access to The Complete Salesperson Course.
