Shaun Mahoney, Business Bootcamp for New Starters (and old)

With a glittering sales career spanning the world, Shaun Mahoney is a fast talker who is going to start new real estate agents off with the right foundation.

Born in New Zealand, Mr Mahoney followed the lights to Las Vegas in 1996 where he worked for five years with teenagers in a church before moving into finance. He was named Mortgage Magazine’s Rookie Superstar of the United States within 18 months. “For the next four or five years, I was in the top 20 per cent of all income earners in the United States and recognised for sales in multiple awards,” Mr Mahoney said. When Mr Mahoney left in 2009 to move to the Queensland’s Gold Coast the company, which had been bought by MetLife, was ranked in the top 10 national institutions in the US.

Setting the foundation

Since arriving in Australia, Mr Mahoney has written and published his business book Keeping It Real and created the 100 Day Foundation Bootcamp. This foundation pack includes training, workbooks and audio material and is perfect for new real estate agents or those wanting to restart their business, Mr Mahoney explained.

“It has the tools needed to really establish the foundations of business, to understand what it is to establish a database and actually deliver great information on a regular basis and the final strategy is to really make a difference in the community,” Mr Mahoney said.

“We look at how we really do real estate and form great connections with people.”

Tools for all agents

Mr Mahoney developed the 100 Day Foundation Bootcamp after speaking with agents – both new and experienced – who said they didn’t really understand the industry when they started out.

“They weren’t given the tools necessary to actually get their business started in an effective way, so the 100 Day Foundation Bootcamp means they can get the skills to facilitate the success of what will be a great career and really launch their business,” he said.

The Bootcamp material is separated into three phases. The first phase is called the ‘Creation Phase’ and covers the first four weeks. This phase runs through the fundamentals of building a real estate business, looking carefully at the essential foundations, creating and building a great database, doing the right research and choosing an area that will really make a difference for the agent. The second section is the ‘Development Phase’, covering weeks 5-9. During this phase the Bootcamp looks at how to develop fantastic business collateral and marketing material.

“We cover creating things that will really make a difference in the lives of the people that you work with and meet with,” Mr Mahoney said. The final section, called the 'Discipline Phase', brings everything together in weeks 10-14. “We go over all the key aspects of a real estate career and we will look at things like how to stay in business for the long haul, how to use retention for gain, what you do now and how to really establish the skills that you have learnt over the last 100 days and develop those into a long career that will make a difference,” he said.

Accepting accountability

The 100 Day Foundation Bootcamp includes a 300-page workbook and at the end of each week there is a complete checklist with custom forms developed for all work covered during the 100 days.

“It’s a pack that is designed for accountability,” Mr Mahoney explained, adding he invested more than $80,000 into his own education and training. “I have put everything I’ve got into this 100 Day Foundation Bootcamp to really give people the skills necessary to build a great career within real estate.” Real Estate Academy is holding the first 100 Day Foundation Bootcamp workshop on July 26 and 27 in Sydney. The workshop coaches real estate agents in the material covered in the workbook in a learning environment supported by peers.

Topics covered include the importance of building a database and the habits needed to survive in the industry, plus participants will receive the workbook covering the three phases mentioned above with weekly checklists, goal setting exercises, custom forms and the accompanying MP3 audio program.
